The extent of the division is 148 Sq.Km. This Divisional Secretariat Consists at 42 Grama Niladhari divisions. One of the largest natural harbours in the centre of the D.S. Division called the Trincomalee harbour (Port) is the most important feature.

Trincomalee is one of the finest natural harbours in the world, lies on the North-East coast of Sri Lanka 257 kilometers from Colombo. While Sandy beaches and numerous little creeks make ideal opportunities for swimming plenty of scope for skin diving and rod and line fishing.

A sight worth seeing is the swami rock a towering 122 meter head land, where an ancient Hindu temple of 1,000 columns once stood.

The temple was destroyed in 1622 and its remains now lie and cattered over the sea bed. The fort was built with the pillars and slabs. Fort Fredrick, Dutch point, Ostenberg point, and Wellington House are other interesting spots.

The Prima flour milling plant with its quay which can accommodate huge wheat carrying vessels situated at Chinabay needs mention.

The Mitsui cement factory and the raw material unloading facility situated at Chinabay is also equally important.

The Naval base in Trincomalee the Air Force base at Chinabay and the Army’s 22 Division Head Quarters at Plantain point are the principal security establishments found within this divisions.

Fishing is the main occupation of the majority of the population. In view of the prevailing circumstances there is no scope for expansion of this activity.
Agriculture is the second main occupation but this too has suffered a severe set back in view at the repeated violence over the past years.
